The 25 Most Dangerous Intersections in Austin, TX
Between January 2023 and December 2025, Austin recorded 37,012 crashes that killed 286 people and injured more than 25,000, according to the City of Austin’s official Vision Zero crash database. We analyzed every intersection-coded crash in that dataset to answer one question: where exactly do Austin wrecks keep happening?
The result is the interactive map and ranking below — the 25 intersections with the most reported crashes over the last three full years. The worst of them, located in Cedar Park at US-183 and Lakeline Mall Drive, saw 101 crashes and 85 injuries in that span — roughly one crash every 11 days.
If you were hurt at one of these intersections, our Austin car accident lawyer page explains your rights, and our free Car Accident Settlement Calculator shows what your claim might be worth.

Crashes = total reported crashes at the intersection, 2023–2025. Serious = suspected serious injuries. Full methodology below.
Why These Intersections See So Many Crashes
The pattern is hard to miss: 19 of the 25 intersections involve a highway frontage (service) road. US-183 alone appears seven times, the I-35 frontage corridor accounts for nine entries, and Loop 1 (MoPac) and the SH-71/Ben White corridor round out most of the rest.
Frontage-road intersections combine the worst ingredients in traffic engineering: drivers decelerating from highway speeds next to drivers pulling out of shopping centers, multiple wide lanes, short signal windows, and constant merging from ramps. The Lakeline Mall Drive and Pecan Park Boulevard entries — two of the top ten — sit on the same one-mile stretch of US-183 in front of Lakeline Mall.
Away from the highways, the most dangerous surface intersections cluster in North Austin — Dessau Road & Parmer Lane, Howard Lane & Harrisglenn Drive, and Lamar & Rundberg — fast-growing corridors where five-lane arterials meet dense residential traffic.
Crashed at One of These Intersections? Do This Next
Crashes at high-volume intersections are rarely simple. Frontage-road and multi-lane wrecks often involve disputed right-of-way, multiple vehicles, and insurance adjusters who know Texas’s modified comparative fault rule can cut or bar your recovery if they pin enough blame on you.
Protect yourself: call 911 and get the crash on a police report, photograph the vehicles, signals, and skid marks before anything moves, get checked by a doctor the same day even if you feel fine, and do not give a recorded statement to the other driver’s insurer. Then learn what your case is actually worth before you talk numbers — our free settlement calculator takes about a minute, and our Austin car accident lawyer page explains the full process. One more date that matters: your filing deadline. Our Texas injury deadline calculator checks it instantly — and if a government vehicle or road defect was involved, notice may be due in as little as 45 days.

Methodology and Data Source
Rankings are built from the City of Austin’s public Vision Zero crash-level database (data retrieved July 26, 2026). We counted every non-deleted crash report dated January 1, 2023 through December 31, 2025 whose reported location is an intersection (two cross streets), grouped crashes using the city’s intersection location polygons, and merged records where the same physical intersection appears under flipped street order or opposite frontage-road sides. Injury figures use the report’s total injury, suspected serious injury, and fatality counts. The data covers the City of Austin’s police jurisdiction; suburb intersections (Round Rock, Georgetown, Cedar Park and others) require separate TxDOT crash extracts and will be added in a future update.
