Williamson County has a standing order in family cases. The current version took effect November 1, 2023, and it binds both spouses automatically the moment the petition is filed. For fourteen days it works as a temporary restraining order, then it converts into a temporary injunction that holds until the judge replaces it, and it is enforceable by contempt.
It stops draining accounts, selling or hiding property, canceling health or auto insurance, running up joint credit, harassing the other spouse, disparaging the other parent in front of the children, and removing the children from the State of Texas. That last one is the state line, not the county line.
One clause surprises nearly everyone. The order bars tracking or monitoring the other spouse, which covers phone location sharing, a GPS unit on a truck, and monitoring software on a shared computer. Families out here share location apps as a matter of course on rural roads. It becomes a violation the day the case is filed.

Acreage, Ag Valuations, and Separate Property
Land is the issue that makes Liberty Hill cases their own animal. Texas presumes everything either spouse holds at divorce is community property, and rebutting that presumption for a specific tract takes clear and convincing evidence. That means a deed, a closing statement, a will, or a gift instrument. It does not mean both spouses agreeing on what happened, because agreement can evaporate by month six.

Custody and Support for Liberty Hill Parents
Texas splits what most people call custody into two questions. Conservatorship is the decision rights over school, medical care, and psychiatric treatment. Possession and access is the calendar. A parent can hold full joint decision-making and still have the smaller share of overnights.
Texas Family Code section 153.131(b) presumes joint managing conservatorship, and the parent asking the court to depart from that carries the burden. On the money side, guideline support under section 154.125 is a percentage of the paying parent’s net resources, applied up to a ceiling the Attorney General adjusts every six years. Net resources are not take-home pay, and the calculation trips up parents whose income is seasonal or comes partly from land.

The default calendar is the Standard Possession Order. Under section 153.3171, a parent living within fifty miles of the child can elect the expanded version, which converts Thursday evenings into overnights and runs weekends from Friday after school to Monday morning.
That fifty mile line matters more out here than it does in town. A parent who stays in Liberty Hill, Georgetown, Leander, or Cedar Park clears it easily. A parent who moves to Burnet, Lampasas, or out past Marble Falls may not, and the schedule changes accordingly. If a move is coming, say so early rather than after the decree is signed.

Calculating Child Support in Texas
Guideline child support is twenty percent of monthly net resources for one child, twenty-five for two, thirty for three, rising from there. Net resources start from all income, then subtract federal income tax at the single-filer rate, Social Security, union dues, and the children’s health and dental coverage.
Where a parent is self-employed, farms, or draws income from land or equipment, the number takes real work to establish. Tax returns showing depreciation and business deductions do not translate directly into net resources, and that gap is where these cases are won or lost.
Support is separate from the medical and dental support the court orders alongside it, and it does not automatically cover college, sports, or a vehicle. If those matter to you, they have to be negotiated into the decree.
Modifications and Enforcement
Start with the part almost nobody knows. The Williamson County standing order applies to original suits. It does not apply to modifications. File to change an existing custody or support order out of Liberty Hill and none of those automatic protections attach, and nothing restrains the other parent unless you ask the court for it. On the merits, section 156.101 requires a material and substantial change in circumstances plus a showing that the change serves the child’s best interest. Under section 156.102, a suit filed within one year of the order to change which parent designates the child’s primary residence needs a supporting affidavit meeting specific statutory grounds. Under section 156.401, support can generally be modified after three years if the guideline amount would differ by twenty percent or one hundred dollars.

Usually yes. Texas Family Code section 6.301 is satisfied if either spouse has lived in Texas six months and in Williamson County ninety days. Yes, and it is far cheaper now than later. Texas Family Code section 6.706 directs the court to restore a party’s prior name on request in the divorce itself. Ask for it in the petition and the decree carries the change, which is all the Social Security Administration, the DMV, and your bank need. Skip it and you are looking at a separate name change suit with its own filing fee and hearing. It is the single most commonly forgotten item in an otherwise finished decree.
